 GERRY THAIN HONOURED AS COACH
serif" size="2">Gerry Thain, the coach at Camphill Edwardians in Birmingham, has been awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours list. Whilst the PE teacher at the school, Gerry has run the swimming club for over forty years. GB squad member Georgina Lee, perhaps his most successful swimmer, is delighted for her coach. "The whole club is thrilled for him."

SWIMMING - LACK OF LONDON POOLS A "NATIONAL DISGRACE"
In the week when Parliament is considering whether to bid for the 2012 Olympic Games to come to London, the Amateur Swimming Association highlights the dearth of swimming-facilities in the capital and describes the lack of pools as a national disgrace. Today's Parliamentary debate and the two day inquiry by the Culture Media and Sport Select Committee into whether Britain should mount a serious Olympic bid for the capital, coincides with the publication by the Amateur Swimming Association of its national Facilities Strategy for swimming 'From Armbands to Gold Medals'.
