Recreation by Design is the sixth exhibition of recent work by London architects. It is curated by RIBA London, the regional office for the capital city. This exhibition showcases a range of built projects and design proposals by RIBA London architects that demonstrate the importance to communities and consumers of good design in recreation projects, from bars and thatres to leisure centres and parks. It highlights the best current schemes from a wide range of projects from London, around the UK and abroad.

Includes several hackney-based architects .....

As the management and staff will tell you "Come to Clissold and we'll show you how NOT to build a leisure facility" ..... and that's what they do give tours to architects to show them the mistakes that have been made. [Clissold Leisure Users' News]

We realize that Microsoft's products are often too complex, too big, too expensive. Now a Ghanian software company -- Soft -- is offering "simple and cheap" products that are tolerant of that nation's all-to-frequent power outages. "Technology is the only way for Africa to get rich," Soft's founder Hermann Hesse explains. Great story. I wonder if there is an upgrade cycle for hardware and software in Ghana? I have a feeling they'd be glad to get the older machines that now are getting dumped in Southeast Asia and causing toxic waste. (Bob_Lema) [Lockergnome Bytes]
