"RESIDENTS living in a conservation area have been left shocked and appalled after contractors replacing the footpath 'butchered' their beautiful, tree-lined street. Contractors employed by Hackney Council, the very people who implement conservation areas, have allowed the workers to dig up, remove and destroy several trees along Middleton Road in Dalston.

Trees in the borough are protected by the council and anyone who causes wilful damage, or destruction of trees, without the council's permission, can face a prosecution or fine for criminal damage.FOR THE FULL STORY SEE THIS WEEK'S GAZETTE AVAILABLE FROM THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1."
