I just saw the following on the LISNews weblog. It made me smile and brought back memories of my hometown, Madras. "To be literate is to possess the cow of plenty." - Motto of the Madras Library Association.

I travelled down memory lane briefly while I surfed the website of the Central Library, IIT (my bibliometric study collected circulation data from this library), and University of Madras (my MLIS is from here).  If you're curious about how education in India compares with college education here in the US, check out Leslie Stahl's report on IITs. Caveat: I am not from IIT :). But, seriously, here's a more comprehensive report from NSF about International Mobility of Scientists and Engineers to the US - Brain Drain or Brain Circulation?

So, what has all this to do with information overload (the trendier phrase is data smog)? We suffer from the information fatigue syndrome and 'paralysis of analysis'!
