A picture named nash_mainimage.jpgThe Battle of Passchendaele, 'the blindest slaughter of a blind war', made Paul Nash (official WW artist, UK) aware of the horrors of war. These pictures of Paul Nash at the Imperial War Museum, UK, are still thought-provoking today. This article in Tate Magazine explains Nash's art in terms of mortality - http://www.tate.org.uk/magazine/issue6/nash.htm.

But this picture We are making a new world prompts an examination of the morality of war.
