IM'ers Get a Secure Chat Room. Instant messaging is about as private as two people talking on the train; you never know who's listening. Encryption could change that. Of course, that might not be good news to those fighting the evildoers. By Farhad Manjoo. [Wired News]

This encryption sounds like a pretty good thing to me, but how is it for speed? Does it encrypt and decrypt on the fly? Is there lag? Lag is death to chat. Would defeat the purpose.
