Business Process Management (BPM) is an important emerging domain which could be supported by web services. Read the article published by Intelligent Enterprise Process of Improvement. Interesting stats: Whether they're clearly understood or not, Web services are here to stay — only 25 percent of survey respondents have no plans to implement Web services. Importantly, 39 percent plan to implement Web services within the project area of BPM, solidifying the relationship between the two. Other project implementation areas for Web services include enterprise portals (53 percent), content management (37 percent), enterprise application integration (EAI; 39 percent), CRM (29 percent), and e-commerce (39 percent). Also interesting stats on accounting for web service adoption: One third of companies see Web services as being a cost center within their organizations, one third see Web services as being a profit center, and the final third are cost-neutral at this point.

I think this is a cool list to glance at every once in a while XMethods List of Available Web Services The emergence of web service technology implementations reminds me of the emergence of http/html back in 93'. Web Services is a transformative technology in that there are so many types of implementations possible. I believe in the next two years we're going to see what the web can real provide to business.
