Will Johnston produces Thinkmedia. I have been involved with technology and product development since 1983 when I bought and started programming my first PC. I was a member of the Apple HyperCard development team, founder of the BuyDirectory (among the first consumer search engines), Sr. Product Manager for PDF at Adobe Systems, Sr. Product Manager for Commerce at Inktomi Corporation and one of the earliest users of the WELL and Usenet.

Thinkmedia provides consulting services for the intersection of technology and business.

An interesting article on the AOL accounting accusations from Washington Post Slate: AOL A-OK I still believe that AOL TW at $9 was a BUY, time will tell.

I have yet to see the killer app for web services. I can't help but to believe that it's going to emerge, since the foundation has been layed and the market is in waiting. I'm contemplating it daily, but have not discovered it yet. Ideas?

Apparently China is becoming the second largest retail market for PC's. While this may not be too surprising, I can't help but to believe that the implications are enormous. The new entrepreneurship and technology development which could emerge is staggering. I would imagine the hunger and determination in China for participating in the global market is enormous, as is the number of indivdiuals who will contribute.

In the 1980's I played a fair amount of Go and remember reading then, that the game was a good benchmark for intelligent problem solving which could be used for programming artificial intelligence. It appears that this supposition is remerging in the New York Times  In an Ancient Game, Computing's Future

The New York Times Reports A Shift Registers in Willingness to Pay for Internet Content Isn't it about time. Hopefully this will lead to a weeding out of the low budget content that is so dominant and open doors for those who write well. I would be willing to pay for a few of my favorite content sources (NY Times, SFGate, Slate) now if it were on a micropayment or annual subscription basis. I would really like to see the quality of blogs increase to reflect a value worthy of a financial contribution.
