So, the second season of American Idol began today.  I didn't watch it because I was bummed that it pre-empted 24.  After reading the blogcritics' write up (ping)on the one-sided contract that the producers made the contestants sign, maybe it wasn't such a loss to miss AI.

Look at this clause:

I acknowledge and agree that, should I win the Competition and subject to my availability at the time of the Producer's request, l shall participate in a "World Idol" program where winners/contestants from the "Pop Idol" and/or "American Idol" competition in other countries or other versions of the Series shall compete against each other and, provided that I appear on the "World Idol" program, I agree to accept a total fee of One Thousand Four Hundred Dollars ($1,400.00) in full and final consideration for my appearance in such program and the grant of all rights in relation thereto on the same terms and conditions set out hereunder.

$1,400.00???? Geez, and how much will Fox make for "World Idol?"

Just surfed to this site (which is old news, btw) that reprints a cease and desist from author Anne Rice's attorney Christine Cuddy of Kleinberg Lopez Lange Brisbin & Cuddy LLP.  Apparently the website fanfiction.net made available fan fiction containing characters from Anne Rice's novels, e.g. Lestat, Louis, Claudia, Marius, Armand, Pandora, Mael, Maharet and Khayman.  I guess the C&D worked, as the Anne Rice fan fiction was taken down.
