Oh yea, and they have transcripts, slides, audio, and video from the DRM conference as well.

Pointer from Many Media:  Cal Berkley has a ton of resources on the web from their Digital Rights Management (DRM) conference.

Thanks to Ernie for the pointer to the law.com article Seattle Sleuth. It's about how the firm Preston Gates & Ellis LLP developed software, named Patterns, that helps to uncover information in a pile of electronic discovery documents.

Patterns helps Preston Gates speed and simplify the painstaking process of sifting through electronic documents essential to discovery in litigation. It relies on sophisticated search technology to organize each document into distinct categories and then find the patterns in the maze. It also looks cool: a collection of amoeba-like clusters crawl across the screen in response to each search request. Those clusters represent groups of similar documents. When an attorney searches with a new word or concept, the amoebas regroup. On the side of the screen, the attorney can see the subject matters contained in each document, and can click to view the documents themselves.

The article is also about how they developed another program called Structure, which helps assemble documents in transactions.

Gartner's take on Hewlett-Packard's move to consolidate all of it's Intellectual Property under Chief Technology Officer Shane Robinson:

With this announcement, HP has formalized a key knowledge management initiative — managing intellectual property. Many enterprises have large patent portfolios. They invest heavily in R&D to develop and gain patents but rarely exploit their full value as individual intellectual assets or as part of a larger portfolio. HP's announcement points to three critical success factors in managing patents:

Intentional management

Ownership and accountability

Recognition of technology’s role: IT can support patent management in four ways:

  • Administration and cost management
  • License revenue
  • Patent protection
  • Knowledge reuse

As a Filipino-American, I really hate to see stories like this:  Airport Blast in Philippines Kills 19.

See Martin's comments on Victor's Little Secret win over Victoria's Secret here.

What'd you expect.  From the San Diego Union-Tribune (God, I wish I was in San Diego right now), comes this story:  Screen Actors Guild Warns Entertainment Executives Not to Pick on Anti-War Actors.  What about the public SAG.  What if we don't want to see another Sean Penn movie or watch the "West Wing."  What will you do then?  Go No. 15.

More on Michael Waltrip.  From his website comes this quote:

"I've been wanting to say this all week," said Waltrip seriously. "We are a country and Bush is our leader. We need to unite behind him and support the decisions he makes. Democrats and Republicans are all in Washington, and as a group, they are going to decide what is best for this country, and the President is just over the system. To turn your back on the flag or to protest at this time hurts my heart. I pray for the President and our country, and I just ask that people support the system and stand firm behind him."

I'll be routing for you No. 15.

I'll take the pledge with you Dan Gillmor.  I won't buy Lexmark printers (I won't even give them the satisfaction of a link) until they abandon their anti-customer stand.  I'm experienced in boycotts.  I've got a personal boycott against Best Buy due to a bad experience I had there two years ago.
