NO CHARGES: Teddy Dupay, Orlando Magic free agent
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Times-Union reports Orlando Magic free agent and former University of Florida basketball star Teddy Dupay won't face gambling charges despite court documents made public earlier this week that claim Dupay placed bets on Florida, other NCAA basketball games and professional sports while he was a scholarship athlete in Tallahassee. Dupay was dismissed from the basketball team last September, before his senior season, after he was listed as an uncharged co-defendant in a gambling investigation by university police. He has denied betting on any games.

COLLUSION CHARGES: NBA Owners
NEW YORK -- Newark Star-Ledger reports the executive director of the NBA players' union has filed circumvention and collusion charges against the league. An arbitrator is expected to hear the case within 30 days. In the meantime, free agents who were supposed to begin signing contracts today could be facing a nuclear winter this summer.

ECONOMICS: NBA Salary Cap
NEW YORK -- Associated Press reports the NBA salary cap is going down for the first time in its 18-year history. The cap, which rose last year by $7 million to $42.5 million, was dropped on Tuesday to $40.271 million for the 2002-03 season primarily because of a $100 million-plus decrease in guaranteed television money.

ARRAIGNED: Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers
PHILADELPHIA -- Associated Press reports Allen Iverson's Tuesday ended much as it began: at home in his mansion with a media horde camped outside. In between, the NBA star spent nearly 11 hours in custody and was arraigned on gun and assault charges. Philadelphia Inquirer has exhaustive coverage.
