Holiday Sales
I finally did it. I got up at 5am last Friday to catch one of those special 6am-12am sales at Best Buy. It was nuts! I arrived at the store around 5:55am and the line outside already stretched around the building into the back parking lot. It was about 25 degrees outside with a windchill of about 10 or 15. No way I'm standing outside for that.
The line started moving at 6:00, but it kept stopping every now and then. It seems they had reached the maximum capacity according to fire codes and had to close the doors. As people filtered out they would let a few more in. I got in line around 6:20 and was in the store by 6:30.
I quickly went to the networking area and picked up my D-Link AirPlus 2.4ghz wireless router. It's normally $109, but during this sale you get a $60 mail-in rebate for a net cost of $49. Not too bad! I also picked up a D-Link PCMCIA AirPlus wireless card for my new laptop. I was so excited that they weren't sold out that I got in line right away. I forgot to pick up another 256MB of memory which was only costing $5 during the sale!
Waiting in line wasn't as satisfying. After standing in a line that snaked through almost the entire store, I finally got out of there around 7:45am. The net result of this was about 5 minutes of shopping and an hour and 15 minutes in line. Brutal -- but I saved $60 and can now access my network (and the Internet!) from anywhere in the house! :)
