After using the entire 20-day signing period to consider legislation passed by lawmakers during the 2004 legislative session, Gov. Olene Walker summarized her decisions and actions as chief executive Wednesday at the Capitol.

“It is a weighty responsibility to act on legislation, and one that I take seriously,” Walker said. “Some issues were clear cut and easily decided, but others needed much more research and pondering.”

Walker highlighted the plethora of input offered by the public regarding many of the bills, noting that it is important and helpful to hear the public’s voice.

“I want to thank those who have weighed in on many of these bills,” she said. “Though it sometimes disagreed with the decision I made, all of the input I received was helpful to the process.”

“If the bill does more good than harm, I signed it,” she said. “If it did otherwise, I didn’t.” “I feel this criteria has served me and the public well.”

A summary of vetoed bills and their accompanying letters of explanation are available on the governor’s Web site at www.utah.gov/governor.
