This looks to be a interesting book.  Take a gander at Kevin Kelly's review over at Cool Tools of Home Comforts: The Art & Science of Keeping House by Cheryl Mendelson.

"This appears to be a book of tips for housekeeping, but it is as much about housekeeping as Moby Dick is about fishing. It's about doing mindless chores mindfully. If you cook, clean, and dress, why not do it with full knowledge of what the most scientific method is?"

An Except:

"Washing the Dishes. Begin with perfectly clean, hot, sudsy water. Wash the dishes that are least soiled first and progress to those that are most soiled, as this entails the fewest changes of water. As noted above, you usually begin with glass and silver or flatware, which need very hot water so that they dry quickly without streaks or spots."

We've use these at work for brown and black outs.  Lovely, easy to use devices that are clean enough for medical or computer equipment.

When people rebel against the mundane:

Seen the BugMeNot bookmarklet yet?.

"Lotsa people know about BugMeNot, the centralized database of usernames and passwords for Web sites that require free registration (such as, alas, many news sites). But have you seen the bookmarklet?

On the BugMeNot home page, click on the link that says "bookmarklet" and drag it to your bookmarks/favorites. From then on, whenever you're at a registration log-in page, just click that bookmark and it will pop-up a window with a username and password for the site that you're currently looking at.

Pretty awesome.

The next step will be browsers that automatically log you in to registration-based sites based on a centralized database of free accounts -- so you don't even *see* the log-in screen. I smell an arms race."  [via Holovaty.com]
