A very popular subject lately: Voice over IP and setting up personal telcos.

  • Digium makes hardware that connects personal telcos and PBX's to analog land-lines.
    • They've also founded and funded the open source GNU / Linux based Asterisk PBX
    • iaxclient for the iax (asterisk protocol)
  • iptel.org has an open source SIP router (works with just about everything from softphones, hardware phones to windows messenger)
  • Xten provides sip phone software - it is currently bring rebranded for vonage and others.  There is a free version available.
  • OpenH323 Project
  • Slashdot: Do-It-Yourself VOIP Telco
  • Robert X. Cringely's May 27th article on Linksys WRT54G mesh networks by changing the firmware - telco competition.
