GAWDS now inviting new members.
The Guild of Accessible Web Designers is a world wide organisation of web designers and developers committed to helping each other, and promoting the message that accessible web design is 'good for business' . I'd describe the organisation in detail here, but the official site does a far better job than I could. If you've been following the web accessibility community in any detail You're likely to recognise a number of the names on the registered members list; I've been following GAWDS developments for a while and its shaping up to be a great resource for accessibility minded designers. I've also contributed an article on Writing good ALT text which hopefully provides some useful advice on a frequently misunderstood topic. [Simon Willison's Weblog]

Governing: WebWatch http://www.governing.com/webwatch.htm This frequently updated site is full of remarkably good sites state and local governments have created to provide imaginative services. The sites are useful in and of themselves, but they're also great idea generators for library webmasters.

eScholarship Editions http://texts.cdlib.org/escholarship/ The California Digital Library has digitized "the full-text of nearly 1400 book-length academic works, of interest to both scholarly and general-interest readers," published by the University of California Press. All titles are accessible to University of California faculty, staff, and students; 400+ titles are available to everyone. Those 400 cover a wide range of topics, including the history of wine in America, the tobacco wars in California, the art of Chuck Jones, strategies for regulating risky technologies, and the Kitty Genovese case.
