Framers Of Constitution Purposely Secular?. Susan Jacoby of the New York Times had an interesting comment about the Democrats and the "God Gap." Basically, playing religious "me-to-ism" when it suits candidates plays to a dangerous myth: "That the American system was founded on divine authority rather than human reason." See, the framers of the Consitution deliberately omitted any reference to God, stating that the government's authority comes from "We the People."

Religious faith [argueably] has it's place, but in confronting human problems here on earth, no politician should suggest he is acting on "divine instructions." People who believe a politician that has made such a suggestion need to get their heads examined. [What Do You Think? Comment on this Post!] [Father Dan]

Feds Outraged by Almost-Bare Super Bowl Breast; but Animal Flatulence is Fine. AP: CBS apologizes for Jackson's breast-baring at Super Bowl halftime show; FCC launches probe. (FCC Chairman Michael) Powell said, ``I am outraged at what I saw during the halftime show of the Super Bowl. Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration. Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass and deplorable stunt. Our nation's children, parents and citizens deserve better.''

Classless, crass? You bet. But more classless and more crass than Super Bowl commercials containing:
  • A farting horse?
  • Multiple ads for drugs to stimulate (human) male erections?
  • Hints of beastiality (the chimp hitting on the young woman)?
  • A dog that grabs a man's crotch and won't let go? Just asking... [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]

Scientific American: Better Displays with Organic Films. The answer is yes, thanks to organic light-emitting materials that promise to make electronic viewing more convenient and ubiquitous. Used in displays, the organic materials are brighter, consume less energy and are easier to manufacture (thus potentially cheaper) than current options based on liquid crystals. [Tomalak's Realm]
