The California Digital Library has digitized "the full-text of nearly 1400 book-length academic works, of interest to both scholarly and general-interest readers," published by the University of California Press. All titles are accessible to University of California faculty, staff, and students; 400+ titles are available to everyone. Those 400 cover a wide range of topics, including the history of wine in America, the tobacco wars in California, the art of Chuck Jones, strategies for regulating risky technologies, and the Kitty Genovese case.
