A Grown Man
Tonight I drove to SF with a friend. SF, in South Dakota, means Sioux Falls. I can’t even imagine when next I’ll be able to go to San Francisco. Not soon enough. I realized, today, that the more I ‘grow up’, the more I dislike it. Here is what happened: I had an appointment in the afternoon that cancelled so I went to the local game/geek store to shoot the breeze. They were playing “Magic The Gathering” and since for the past 6 or 7 years I’ve thought of giving the game a shot I inquired on the cost of a starter deck. It’s fourteen bucks, plus a CD that has a multimedia tutorial. I weighed the package in my hands – I want to play MTG but… but… I left the store abruptly.
This evening, in SF, I am at Target. I buy things: a shower hanger, some towels, a trash can. At the check out I realize that the I’m spending the money I refused earlier that day to part with; I exchanged Magic games for a shower hanger and towels. How upper 20s, I think. I’m having a Fight Club moment – the beginning, when he was buying all that furniture.
