In The Image

My latest journey began a few weeks ago.  In The Image1 is an interwoven story of a Jewish girl and an older Jewish man blending the past, the present and the grappling of true faith.

There are several things that drew me to the book.  The youth of the author, Dara Horn, is an exciting piece of things.  Not only is her voice much closer to mine but she asks my questions and seeks to reconcile the same things I try to bridge in my own life.  Questions of identity, religious inheritance, our connection with the past and true faith2.

The book is filled with subtlety and reference.  As I read I'm vaguely aware of connections but on the first pass I doubt if I'll get all of them.  That will make the second pass as pleasurable as the first.

1Excellent reviews online: Christian Science Monitor, San Francisco Chronicle, New York Times
2I'm not Jewish, in case you were wondering but these are the questions of any religious tradition.  It's interesting to see a young Jew getting there.
