Notebooks

Check it.  I had a "face collection" once - it was a notebook I'd filled by doodling other people's faces.

All this to say that you should visit: http://www.aluran.com/.  Actually, start with "Dreams" or "IQ Disparity" or "Gold Diggers."

I hate these moments when I want to pull an old book off of the shelf when it's in California.  Right now it is Haruki Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart.  There is a great moment in the book where the unnamed narrator describes how we create our own reality.  The weekend before last when I was in Minneapolis I had an opportunity to look at old high school yearbooks and marvel at how distorted my perception of reality was at the time.  It was all NBA, USA and "death chiles" (good looking women).

It's not as easy to admit that I still create my own reality in many ways.  I agonize over work, read as much as possible and fantasize about going to grad school.  These things may or may not be important.

I read another book a while ago about neuro-biology.  So much of what we know about the brain and mind is based on pathology and dysfunction.  A person who, for example, can't experience the sensation of touch may have a part of their brain damaged and by discovering this damaged portion we can reasonably assume that a certain part of the brain is what is responsible for touch in normal people.

Off-kilter people are usually a bit of a laugh but they should really inspire some questions. In what way am I making up reality as I go?
