Ghost Town

Good Evening Comrades.  All of you know that there has been an incredible misfortune -- the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant.  It has painfully affected the Soviet people, and shocked the international community.  For the first time, we confront the real force of nuclear energy, out of control. - Mikhail Gorbachev

I was 11 when it happened in 1986.  We didn't have a television at that point so it was just a vaguery. A girl named Elena took a ride and brings the reality of lay journalism to the web. Go with her on her Chernobyl photo essay. [courtesy of Anne]
