First Jobs

Inspired by Worthwhile.

I got my first job as an 18 year old.  When you grow up in a third world country employment is not easy to come by since there is an endless supply 45 year old married ex-checkout clerks (with advanced degrees) willing to be janitors.

I worked at the Physical Plant as a janitor.  My shift started at 11pm and ended at 3am.  What did I learn?

*Throwing cups of coffee away when they are nearly full makes a custodian's job annoying and messy.
*People make out all over the place at a University late at night, especially in September.
*You can hallucinate if you don't get enough sleep.
*Any person (or group of people) are well explained by their trash.
*I had never been exposed to women's restrooms. I will go no further.
*Don't leave your job for your girlfriend, even if you like her.  This is how I got fired1.
*Being fired often leads to a better job2.

1I've been fired twice. Then and at the Christian Discount Bookcentera with gresu and my brother. Actually gresu self-fired herself when Jonathan and I found out we had to leave.
2It took a few months but a got a cushy job doing data entry for admissions. I got to listen to music, make friends, choose my hours and use the restrooms I used to clean.
aI've never met such wankers in my entire life and I'm not young. ChristianDiscountBookcentaShoppas!
