Concentration

I'm having trouble concentrating today. It's been raining a lot in South Dakota.  Even the farm folk, often given to the expression, "We need the moisture!", have been daunted.  It reminds me of Oregon though, and Oregon always makes me happy. There have been quite a few thunder storms too.  If you ask me, the best aspect of plains weather is the storm.  When I remember what Californians call storms it makes me laugh; the conflict of hot and cold air in this place makes the weather volatile far beyond the modest rains that would characterize bad weather in southern California.  The thunder will wake you up, the wind reminds you that you are alive, and the rain changes the dead trees into a living green color. The kind of green you get in Oregon.

Twenty Something

"Be interesting in your twenties... Otherwise you'll want to do it in your thirties or forties, when it wreaks all kinds of havoc, and you've got a [spouse] and kids."

A Conversation From Last Summer

Chris: Do you believe in ghosts?

Phadreus: No. They contain no matter and have no energy and therefore, according to the laws of science, do not exist except in people's minds.

Phadreus pauses and reflects...

Phadreus: Of course, the laws of science contain no matter and have no energy either and therefore do not exist except in people's minds...

I was reminded by my latest read, Fire in the Mind1. This conversation is a paraphrase from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
