Pasadena

Pasadena defines something different for southern California.  It’s a different feel: houses are different, it’s properly urban, and in Californian terms, it’s old.  When you look closely you see the details: a city that is the contrasting of buildings with natural trees and creeping vines, a city with many old churches, a blend of the quiet rich and urban poor, and an abundance of coffee per capita. Not further than a few miles from where you walk, at JPL engineers are sending spaceships to mars. Literally.

Buildings on green as you walk near Old Town.

You're never far from something natural, the balance seems almost perfect

An old fire escape faces east.

Crawl is given leeway to grow...

as it sees fit.

Cliff's is the used bookstore every place should have: poor service with...

piles of unsorted, wandering books looking for a home. I got a beautiful scowl when I asked for the difference between trade and mass-market paperbacks.

Expressive architecture for churches accompanies the traditional1.

Inside All Saints2 you will find carefully placed natural light.

And Saint Peter reminds you that though you fail, God still won't forget you.

City Hall remains watched over as well.

You are never far from the natural. (This shot is for K).

1The original Presbyterian Church burned down. The traditional structure was replaced with the pictured.
2All Saints looks interesting. The church is screening OutFoxed, no less. Joining forces with Laemmle, no less.  Perhaps a visit next time...
