WiFi Needs Headphones

I'm in a bad place: the neighbor from whom I rip off WiFi has recently developed the bad habit of turning his or her computer/router off in the most inopportune moments. This weekend, for four excruciating days, the computer/router was off. My mental health is directly related to my ability to get online so I broke down and allowed myself to get ripped off by Tmobile so that in the event that my neighbor decides to torture everyone who boosts the signal, I have an alternative.  Instant karma.

But using Starbucks or any other Tmobile hotspot required headphones unless you want to die the death of a thousand bad "genre discs."  A few years ago it was Bob Marley they'd play on repeat - edgy but safe for the drone customers - and now they cycle through different genres, maintaining each on repeat for a few days before turning to another watered down, mind numbing, spirit crushing compilation.  Yesterday they were playing "oldies" and I'm still recouperating.

Which is worse: access with bad music or mental instability?  Despite it all, I feel fortunate; it could have been Christmas genre discs instead of oldies.

Old Stuff

I've been going through old things recently.  I found the following in an old notebook:

March, 2002:
With Telefon Tel Aviv in the headphones. I don't know why but the place and sound of this music communicate a deep interglobal connection between the mid-American wilderness and the unknown pulses of a volatile place far away. I am Tel Aviv, I and the other satellites sending infrequent high frequency broadcasts to each other. I hear, I understand.
