Comics Process

I love comics. Comics artist Kazu Kibiuishi takes us through his process for the excellent online comic Copper.

There's something he begins with which resonated with me:

I love seeing creative messes. Just so long as it isn't so messy it's difficult to work, I love having piles of paper strewn about the workspace."

I have to admit that I like the creative mess as well. When a person's desk is too clean it makes me wonder whether they are actually building something. I love a big desk that I can spread out upon.

Time, Craft, Care

"... must have a lot of time on their hands."

I hate this statement. I hear it frequently, especially when people see something that is magnificent not just as a piece of expression, but as an act of tenacity. My hat is off to people who push boundaries and give a piece of themselves up for the rest of us to experience something special. The time they spend hard at work is the time you spend on the couch.
