Canoe Death

Justin and I have been taking a photo a day and posting on our photoblogs. On Friday I was looking for a shot about a mile upstream on the Big Sioux River, which flows within sight of our apartment.  The previous night had brought a lot of rain and the river, which on most occasions is modest and calm near here, had overflowed considerably.

Just as I was walking by I saw my money shot - a canoe coming down the river with two occupants. I had to work fast since my camera isn't very good so I got a shot through the branches and then ran to a nearby bridge to get a picture of them headed downstream.  That picture was my friday selection for phoDak.

Later that evening K noticed a story in the local newspaper about a canoe capsizing in the river that left a survivor and another man missing and presumed dead.  I am not sure if it's one of the men I pictured but it's an eerie feeling.  Today a similar story ran - a man presumed dead from a canoe accident in the river.

Hopefully I didn't picture the unlucky ones but I'll have to keep my eyes open in the next few weeks to see if any pictures are put in the newspaper.  Another adventure in the life of...
