The Last King of Scotland
Almost exactly three years ago I wrote a short review about an interesting book called The Last King of Scotland. which covers the period of Ugandan history when the country was run amuck by the mad dictator Idi Amin through the eyes of a white doctor. White African posted earlier this week that a movie is forthcoming with a leading role (presumably Idi Amin) to Forest Whitaker. There is also a trailer for the film courtesy of Apple and Fox.
The usual feelings ensue: I think a lot of people who see the film will ask me about being "Ugandan" but the Hollywood treatment of the subject will probably bother me considerably, starting off with Whitaker's accent which sounds more Nigerian than Ugandan.

The Wonga Coup
In January last year I wrote at length about a failed attempt at a coup d'etat in Equatorial Guinea. It's good to know something I thought was bookworthy was pursued to that end; a new book based on the events, The Wonga Coup, has been written by journalist Adam Roberts.
Adam was on the NPR program Fresh Air today being interviewed about his book - a nice short version if you don't have time for the entire book. You can listen to the audio here.
