Adjustment
I've just begun my latest tour in South Dakota. This one will traverse my birthday and have me home on August 7. Over the last couple of days I've been getting back into life here and comfort has been more elusive than usual. The part of my mind associated with activity has to slow down whereas the part associated with reflection has to gear up. In California one has a tendency to rush around to make time while in South Dakota the opposite is tempting: you end up doing things to kill time. Either case can be a source of frustration.
I'm thinking about all the people like me right now: hundreds, thousands - even millions alone in a hotel room, like sitting in a satellite orbiting the earth, sending radio signals to friends.
