Another reason not to spam -- it's shooting yourself in the foot.

Spam Chasing Away Online Buyers. A group of 65 American and European consumer groups released a study indicating half of respondents shop less or not at all online because of a fear of inviting more spam. Only one in six survey takers thought that spam filters they used worked well. Five out of six would support laws allowing only opt-in emails. Internet Retailer reports. Finding ways to use RSS in marketing.

It's important not to overlook the notion that the value of RSS is that it delivers CONTENT, not that it delivers or can deliver advertising. RSSAds is interesting, but if an entrepreneur thinks of RSS as a simple way to deliver a pitch, then the message is just going to be seen as another form of spam. In my opinion, we ought to be thinking in terms of delivering value, and then the business will find us. -- BB

RSS to Gain Ad Capability. The traditionally free syndication services many publishers use as additional distribution mechanism, allowing users to read articles through news reader applications, may soon gain an advertising capability. The Really Simple Syndication (RSS) format open standard has long been criticized by commercial publishers for both lacking a tracking mechanism and a simple advertising model. San Francisco-based RSSAds hopes to change that, partly with technology and partly by creating a sort of RSS ad network. IAR reports.
