It's over with Ebone; just got this over the mail....
/Pascal

From: Ebone NOC Hoeilaart

Today everything looked good, Oakley was really interested in Ebone.
Around 16:00 CET the negociations were succesfully terminated in Brussels-Hoeilaart and the negociation-team left for De Hague to continue with the banks . . .  but

About 20:00h the noc was deserted

The negociations with the banks and the curators and Oakley where stopped, the banks were asking for 45 Milion Euro to keep Ebone running ,  Oakley was not willing to give more than 25.
Reminder : if the traffic is voluntary shut-down, several customers will sew us, LEAVING LESS MONEY FOR THE EMPLOYEES ! (several companys would be bancrupt much sooner too...)
So it was decided NOT to shutdown anything for legal issues.   we hope everyone can understand this.

Sorry for this really sad news... It was nice knowing you all,

Ronny
NOC-engineer

Talking back to the tube. For media and cable companies, video on demand presents intriguing possibilities, Wharton experts say. But does it have the potential to bring the couch potato market to the Web? [CNET News.com]

The Reuters source wasn't all that good, apparently. The NOC guys have indeed walked out because they weren't being paid anylonger. But the potential deal., lead by a group called Oakley has not been cancelled. The NOC guys will only return than when they get paid again, who can blame that?

Ebone network may be down soon ... Reuters It looks as if the last try to save what was once (or is it still?) Europe's best IP Backbone, has failed. All hopes were on a small investor group to take what was Ebone before KPNQwest took it over, and restart it. Especially bad news for those at the NOC in Hoeilaart who have been fighting past weeks for survival. It would have been a good thing amongst all these telecoms nightmares to see Ebone and it's AS1755 come to live on it's own. Let's keep hoping for some kind of phoenix scenario.
