Maybe the best way to see this Telecom business tumble is captured by this Japanese Proverb

"The reverse side also has a reverse side."

Meltdowns at Enron and WorldCom. Yesterday a board revolt at Vivendi, a media company, and the CEO is toast. What happens when one of the owners of one of the major TV networks becomes the target of a business scandal. Viacom, Disney, GE, AOL. Who will be first to go down? But will the reporters go there? Heh. Why is everyone so surprised. Didn't they know that BigCo's have no integrity or ethics. Where were they for the last ten years? We all didn't care too much as long as the stock prices were going up. Sure they're lying everyone knew they were. So what's new. You gotta know this -- just as blogs are the cure for integrity problems at the BigPubs, LittleCo's will be our haven from the excesses of the idiots who run the BigCo's. Microbusinesses. Hey it's cool that people seem to require integrity of their business leaders. How are the current crop going to compete. They didn't teach integrity at business school.   [Scripting News]

In light of the Enron, KPNQwest & Worldcom tragedies this one is a double whammer:

"I'll tell you, Harris, they don't make accountants like they used to. Those I had in the 1990s never brought me figures like these."

They're in demolition mode now, over at Ebone. According to the NOC Engineer taking care of communications this is what is happening at the moment:

[The Belgian curators of Ebone/KPNQwest hired some people to do the breakdown-job it takes several hours - but by this evening the backbone will be burried.

What's happening to this industry? Is it the 7 year cycle of bad we are in right now after 7 good years? I don't know but at least it sure is something to give a good think. Vivendi, from what recall, had a model that strongly relied on Internet and it's development now we see reports that CEO Jean-Marie Messier is stepping down. This mean the company could lose its biggest Internet cheerleader, leading to a re-examination of its VUNet division under fresh eyes.
