African Schools Get a Tech Boost. SchoolNetAfrica is working to bring technology resources to children, many of whom have never even seen a computer. By Katie Dean. [Wired News]

"In some schools in Africa, basic necessities like water and electricity are so rare that bringing technology resources to students might seem to be beyond their reach. "

Well, if this is this case, shouldn't we be trying to get water and electricity there before we get worried about technology? Projects like these make me wonder about who is driving the technology in education agenda.

Study: Brains Want to Cooperate. You probably didn't even know you had a 'reward center' in your brain, but you do, and it's telling you to help your fellow human. By Louise Knapp. [Wired News]

"During their experiments, Berns and the Emory team discovered that when pairs of volunteers cooperated with one another, the regions of the brain known as reward circuits were activated."

Wow! So if this is the case, is there any explanation for people who prefer to work individually? I guess there is no corresponding negative reaction to not cooperating. Then again, as others point out in the article, there is nothing to say that we cooperate because we get a good feeling.
