USDOD CTO CONFERENCE QUOTES OF THE DAY: Day two of this conference is now complete and I wanted to share a couple of fantastic quotes offered up as part of the program. INDUSTRY STANDARDS: Glover Ferguson, Chief Scientist at Accenture, opined about "standards". "The notion of 'standards' is just another way to describe a group of companies coming together and agreeing to cease innovating on a specific technology." He offered that standards are the right thing to create, but perhaps farther down the product/category lifecycle. Waiting for standards to emerge for disruptive technology is bad strategy. WEB SERVICES AND TRUST: "I think web services is going to die a painful death", said Marc Andreessen, Chairman and Co-Founder of OpsWare (also Netscape co-founder). The comment was made during a discussion on authentication and trust of web based entities (people and devices). I guess we know how he feels about ws-secure! 10:22:36 PM ![]() |
