Piling on

Several columnists weigh in with richly deserved criticism of Kwame:

Pete Waldmeir, "Memo raises doubts about style, substance of mayor, crew":

"For an administration that was supposed to be loaded with politically savvy people from his mom and dad on down, Kwame Kilpatrick's advisers more and more are looking as if they just dropped out of a Three Stooges film festival.

"Who on earth crafted that ridiculous memo demanding that Democratic governor candidate Jennifer Granholm set up quotas for African American appointees in exchange for Kilpatrick delivering the Detroit vote for her? Whoever composed that disaster couldn't have done more harm to Granholm's campaign if they'd hired Republican flacks to write it."

Bill Johnson, "Blame Detroit mayor for racial politics":

"Unlike the Kilpatrick administration memo, the Republican response doesn't deserve the race-baiting label. It was the memo that depicts racial posturing. 'Based on the policies of the last 12 years, the next administration must address the issues that face the African-American community,' it read. It further proposed that 20 percent of Granholm appointees be black, which makes the criticism directed at Posthumus hypocritical. Granholm supporters would like voters to ignore the mayor's race-specific overtures while taking the GOP to task for exploiting them."
