auDRP launched. Today is the first day of the new auDRP process that auDA has been working on for the last 18 months. It is based on the gTLD UDRP but is different in two main areas:
to take account of the policy rules that apply to .au domain names, that do not apply to gTLD domain names; and
to address practical constraints that have become apparent since arbitrations under the UDRP began in 1999. I was curious if it was mandatory and found this little nugget:
"Please note that existing domain name licences will be 'grandfathered'. This means that registrants who licensed their domain name before introduction of the auDRP will not have to submit to a proceeding under the auDRP, unless they choose to 'sign on' to the auDRP. However, upon renewing their domain name, registrants will be required to 'sign on'to the auDRP as part of their domain name licence agreement."
