The New Brunswick department of Education made an unfortunate decision earlier this week - they started blocking access to the free monpif.ca webmail service. Monpif
is a nifty French language alternative to the ubiquitous and ad-filled
Hotmail. It has the backing of Schoolnet and Industry Canada, and was
specially designed for youngsters in collaboration with the Canadian
Federation of Teachers.

how this move affects things at his school, where many students relied
on the service and can no longer access their email, and Audrey Miller

Apparently, the fact that anyone can sign up for an account at monpif
causes security concerns at the department and is the reason for the
firewalling. Can anyone explain this? I find it puzzling.
