> This article appeared in the New York Times on August 30, 02002: A Universal Tool to Rescue Old Files from Obsolescence" by Anne Eisenberg, New York Times, from the HPCwire. The story was copied and posted to the
//purl.org/net/archiveslist/">ARCHIVES  mailing list on September 5, 02002 where you can read it. The "universal computer" reminds me of these perpetual motion machines and free energy devices that physicist Dr. Robert Park calls "voodoo science".

The InterPARES Project headquartered at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, released its findings on September 5, 02002:

The Long-term Preservation of Authentic Elect

ronic Records: Findings of the InterPARES Project

The "book" is available via a single HTML page consisting of the Table of Contents with links to individual Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Some of the PDF files are interlinked to one another and there are hyperlinks within the PDF files to external sources of information. It would have been nice if there was a PDF version of the Table of Contents Web page so one could navigate the PDF files internally.

I am looking forward to studying this document. For those who wish to cut to the chase of longt-term prospects for electronic records, Appendix 6, "How to Preserve Authentic Electronic Records", is the heart of the matter. Appendix 7 is a walkthrough on applying the preservation model.
