> The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and the International Publishers Association (IPA) adopted a set of principles and recommendations on June 27, 02002 for
>Preserving the Memory of the World in Perpetuity, by which they mean electronic publications publishers can no longer afford to keep and wish to pass along the costs for permanent maintenance to libraries. The last item in the joint statement calls for cooperation with existing digital preservation research projects.
> A brief report by Margaret Hedstrom and Seamus Ross about the work of the European Union DELOS and the United States National Science Foundation's Working Group on Digital Archiving and Preservation appears in the September 02002 issue of

Professor Hedstrom is the North American Coordinator and Professor Ross is the European Coordinator of this international effort  See the EU(DELOS)-NSF Working Group Web site for further information. The group expects to complete a white paper by December 2002. They are seeking research topics (is this the cart before the horse?), so I have suggested they examine the results of phase 1 of InterPARES and seek to collaborate with phase 2 if that is not already underway.
