The European Commission's ERPAnet (Electronic Resource and Preservation Access Network), is holding a Workshop on XML as a Preservation Strategy in Urbino, Italy, on October 9 to 11, 02002.

ERPAnet will be releasing a wide variety of documents around digital preservation, all focused on the needs of the scientific and cultural heritage communities of the European Union.

Today, September 19, 02002, is the 2nd ECDL Workshop on Web Archiving in Rome, Italy, which is being held in conjunction with the European Conference on Digital Libraries.

The conference proceedings, Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries, can be ordered from Springer Verlag or viewed online with Link authentication.

The September 18, 02002 (vol.

22, no. 3) issue of Education Week contains this article, "No URL Left Behind?: Web Scrub Raises Concerns" by Michelle R. Davis. It's about weeding of the United States Department of Education Web site. The articles mentions the legalities of federal government Web sites and the necessity of their being archived.

Don't be surprised if the Education Week URL for the article disappears from its site in the not too distant future. Somehow that seems to happen a lot on the Web.
