Yale University's planning project into digital preservation for YEA: The Yale Electronic Archives is available as a series of individual Adobe Acrobat PDF files or you can downloadload

the entire one-year progress report. The project is a collaboration between the university and Elsevier Science and was published in February 02002. Most of this project, however, surrounds the preservation of print literature, specifically scientific periodicals issued by, you guessed it, Elsevier. Elsevier Science worked on a similar project and protocol with the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands).

> The State of Digital Preservation: An International Perspective (Washington, D.C.: Council on Library and Information Resources, July 2002) are the proceedings of a symposium held in
Washington, D.C., United States in April 02002. Read it online in HTML or download it as a single Adobe Acrobat PDF file.
> The United States General Accounting Office (GAO) report about the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Information Management: Challenges in Managing and Preserving Electronic Records<
/EM> (Adobe Acrobat PDF file), appeared in July 02002. Highly recommended as an overview of digital preservation efforts to that date by NARA.
> The third issue of Digital Document Quarterly, a privately published newsletter by California technologist and consultant H.M.
Gladney (HMG Consulting), continues his examination of issues surrounding digital preservation. Gladney wonders why national institutions in the United States have been so slow in adopting digital preservation technology when their counterparts in Australia and the Netherlands managed to do so successfully.
