I Have Faced the Interview Panel

Interviews are never a lot of fun. I am always asking myself, "did I say too much? should I say more? can they tell how much I can do from an interview? do they realize how much I have invested in this place?" I feel OK about this one, tho. I used examples, looked people in the eye, and tried to relate to them. It's completely out of my hands now, so we will see where the chips fall next week.

Interview Day

Well, today is the day. I have my interview at 10:45. I am excited about it, but for some reason I am less nervous than I usually am for interviews or important tests. My calmness is definitely not due to confidence that I will get the job. I guess I realize that the only factor in my control is the interview, and the rest is out of my hands. It is up to the interview committee to decide whom to recommend. So I will just do my best and leave my fate in the hands of the p(P)owers that be.

Whatever happens, I have definitely enjoyed and benefited from my three years at ITS. Actually, next Monday marks the third anniversary of my hiring. I have gone from an internship to a product management position with some influence. I owe a lot to Gene Puckett. He is the one who hired me initially, and he has had a hand in almost every good opportunity that I have been offered.

I will let you know how things turn out.

Phil Windley's Public Service Tip No. 2

I may be in the minority, but I will definitely miss Phil when he is gone. Take a look at Public Service Tip No. 2:

Public Service Tip No. 2: Beware the Jabberwocky. As part of my series of tips for those entering public service, I offer a chapter on the Jabberwocky of state government: the legislature.  One of the hardest things to figure out for a private sector mind in public sector life is the legislature.  This was, probably, my largest failing and one thing I'd put a lot more effort into if I were to do it again.  [Windley's Enterprise Computing Weblog]
