Wired: TiVo Loathe to Admit Ad Skip Trick
Now that I found this feature, I use it all the time to skip commercials. To whoever designed this feature - thank you!
To perform the activation/deactivation of this feature do the following:
- Make sure you have TiVo preferences set so that audio effects are played when you do things like hit an arrow key or the TiVo button on the remote control.
- Highlight an already recorded program from the TV playlist
- Enter the following sequence - Select, Play, Select, 3, 0, Select. You should wait to hear an audio effect after each key is pressed, and if the sequence is done correctly you will hear 3 beeps. Note that if you reenter the sequence, you will toggle the enablement of the feature.
- The TiVo remote control's Advance button (right about the 3 button) can now be used to perform 30 second fast forward skip.
There is a lot of controversy about whether users of devices like TiVo should be able to skip commercials. My take is that I, as well as many other TiVo users, have to pay a monthly fee of $12.95 for TiVo, so I feel that it is our right to not see commercials at all.
