Lessig points to Brewster's Way Back Machine, with a good example of how it adds memory to the Internet, keeping people from changing history (note: I'm generally a supporter of Bush, but examples like the one Lessig points out piss me off). This is all part of a larger issue which is that the WWW doesn't have a formal model of time - Brewster is as close as there is right now. Link
