Thanks for this Sterling.
I guess I've been a "Hacker" all along. Building rolls royces (no, not this page, thx) when chevy's would do. Hacker's in this definition need to be wrapped in prototyper clothing. I guess they are more scientist than engineer if this is the case. Engineers and entrepreneurs are the ones who slap something together that is reasonably functional then ship it and start working on the next model.
Hacker.
Hacker, n: Someone who insists on doing it "right" when half-assed would be perfectly suitable. [Sterling Hughes]

Saw this in the aggregator and it caught my attention:
I just met Richard Lange who was at VisiCalc before Mitch Kapor went on to found Lotus. And of course, I already know Mitch (gave him his first Palm back in '97), his Cambridge office used to be across the hall from me. I guess there's no love lost between Richard and Mitch - too bad, since it seemed to me that Mitch had evolved into a rather consciencious guy - EFF, Emily's List stuff, etc. But having money in Cambridge and having participated in the creation of a killer-app then selling out can create a few resentments on one side and a few epiphanies on the other.
Have not read this yet, curious as to who is actually mentioned. And finally - of course - I used to use VisiCalc (got my first copy from my Uncle who was at McKinsey at the time). And yes my first program was on cards! Now I'm feeling ancient of days... Well, at least I'm blogging!
VisiCalc History. I enjoyed Dan Bricklin's history of the development of VisiCalc. Ah, memories!... [Joho the Blog]

This is a pleasant surprise. No, not that my valuation is effectively zero... Just that My Blog is there at all!!! I do zero intentional promotion and so to discover that someone has not only found the blog (probably some spider or artefact of a software registration led to it's discovery), but that there are virtual shares for the page - none that anyone has bought...indexed, but not listed. So maybe I should dig into this a little deeper - e.g. get listed ;-)
I am curious as to what this is all about - the idea reminds me of, or is derivitave of virtual shares for people - and in a way it is.
I know I am not a font of personal wit or knowledge - at least in this medium, yet... But I do have some powerfully held beliefs and a few are controversial and could be worthy of capturing the imagination. And no, I don't mean which Iron Chef rules supreme...
Oh well, interesting discovery.
