permalink PC as a Tivo

NY Times: Changing Channels, on the PC. The result is a PC that can also play music CD's and DVD movies, present slide shows of your digital photos, play back video clips from your camcorder, let you watch TV, and even record TV shows without tapes, much like a TiVo recorder.

I wonder if all of this use-your-PC-as-a-Tivo will affect DVRs and specifically, Tivo. I imagine that spread Tivo's popularity faster than it would hurt its marketshare.

You know how people refer to tissues as "kleenex"? Sometimes soda is called "coke"? Has anyone noticed that DVRs are usually referred to as "tivos"? Has anyone else noticed that PDAs are almost never referred to as "newtons"?

Thanks [Radio Free Blogistan] for a Great Link, and thanks Seb for a great article, with an immense volume of heavy duty links for us to explore.

[Al Macintyre's Radio Weblog]

Agreed, this (Personal Knowledge Publishing and its Uses in Research) is a great article. A Great article! If you find the length too daunting, read just a section at a time and savor each sentence. Start with section three: How Weblogs Foster Quality.

Cross-posting can be exhausting. I just wanted want to throw this java exe info up on my weblog so that I wouldn't won't forget about it. I have to give credit where credit is due, so I include [1] Java-Channel, [2] James, [3] Steve, [4] Brett.

Should I quote this as [Java-Channel] VIA [James], or [James] VIA [Java-Channel]???
