Novice Football Fan Handles Heartbreak
Notes from Superbowl
Inspirations:
- MVP Dexter Jackson - when a non-glamorous position gets recognition. In his words: he is like the inside of the car, part that you do not see but does the dirty work.
- Brad Johnson - saying they made the game one play at a time. They had rehearsed "just letting it go" [ignoring the scoreboard] in the weeks leading up to the big game. Very in-the-moment, very zen.
- Bill Romo had some gorgeous tackles. His 150% effort was evident (at least in the first half, quarters three and four I couldn't look at the screen.)
Lessons:
- Jerry Rice (my hero) who agreed to wear a wireless michrophone, said "we gotta get some points up on that board" before the first kickoff. That is the antithesis of approaching the game "one play at a time".
- Sports analysts said that a Raiders victory would be dependent on a good start. That means they have one quarter to win the game.
- Robbins - even if he was unable to play, the game could have gone better if he had simply showed up (to the Saturday team meeting).
Bonehead Football Questions (I am a novice fan, this is the first year I have followed the playoffs)
- Why are ceratin positions referred to as "Special Teams"? What makes them special?
- What is a 2 point conversion?
- Who plays in the Pro Bowl, when is it played, and who watches?
- How many gorgeous teeth are shared between Rande and Tiki? Is it unhealthy to have a crush on two married unattainable men?
- What does it mean for a quarterback to be prolific? Has Rich Gannon written a lot of novels?
