permalink Terminology Tour of Data Warehousing

I love glossaries, or should I say, I love being able to access a glossary when the need arises (usually results in a visit to whatis.com). In my dictionary at home I mark off words when I look them up (just like the girl in Say Anything).

Here's another glossary for the collection: The Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Glossary. It offers alphabetical view or logical view with a Terminology Tour: "View Terms in Logical Order - It's a great introduction to the world of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing! Just Click NEXT ON TOUR After Reading About Each Word".

More glossaries found via CIO Magazine:

Data Warehouse & Data Mining Terms - This short list of terms covers the most important data warehouse concepts.

Data Warehouse Glossary - A lengthy glossary covering over 100 data warehousing terms.

Information Warehousing & Access Glossary - Well-explained terms pertaining to data warehousing.

Warehouse, Client/Server and Web Glossary - This extensive list of data warehouse, client/server and Web technology terms is presented by the University of Nebraska.

permalink Data Extraction, Transformation, and Migration Tools

Here's a whitepaper that might come in handy: Data Extraction, Transformation, and Migration Tools. Written in 1996. Have data you need to extract, cleanse, or migrate? The paper aims to help in the selection of methods, and particularly tools, to help you do so. The overall recommendation is to select a suite of tools, each one of which meet specific needs.

Bonus: it includes a glossary of data extraction terms. Also a chart of commercial tools grouped into categories of data reverse engineering, batch export/transport, replication, middleware, data content quality, and data translation.
