People-Powered Leader

What a year. I sent my first e-mail to the Dean campaign on September 1, 2002. Increasingly frustrated with the lead-up to the Iraq war (Congress voted on the war resolution just a month later), I was intrigued by Governor Dean’s principled stance... [Howard Dean in 2004 ::: A weblog by Rick Klau]

Great post on the People part of People-Powered Howard. So true.

Something I have thought for a while but didn't know how to explain it. Something I noticed at the first Meetup I went to in May. By getting people involved, the Dean campaign has done for us three things:

  • provided relief - meetups introduce like minded people. Whaddya know, we're not alone in our frustration, outrage.
  • paid compliments - the Dean campaign assures us we are qualified to join their team. They repeat this message at every port.
  • inspiration in being needed - by requesting our help and showing us how it is paying off, we know we are needed team members, we see the efforts pay off and we are inspired to do more than we have done before.

Inspiring people to act for the betterment of their country - that's a leader.
